5th August 1914 - Mobilised with B Company of the 1st/ 1st Battalion Herefordshire Regiment
                                    (158 Infantry Brigade of 53  Welsh Division)

                                - Pembroke Dock then Oswestry for training

31st August 1914 -1st November- Northampton

1st November  - Suffolk/ Bury St Edmunds entrenching the East Coast

19th April 1915 - Battalion transferred to North Wales Brigade (158th)

16th July 1915 - Embarked at Devonport to proceed to Alexandria

9th August 1915 - Landed on 'C' Beach Suvla Bay, Gallipoli

11th December 1915 -  Embarked for Alexandria

December 1915 - February 1917 - Egypt Campaign

March 1917 - October 1917 - Gaza Campaign

November 1917 - June 1918 - Palestine Campaign

30th June 1918 - France - part of 102 Infantry Brigade of 34 Division

July 1918 - Bois de Reugny

August 1918 - Bucy le Bras Ferme

September 1918 - Kemmel

October 1918 - Menin

October 1918 - Moen

November 1918 - January 1919 - Lessines/Chatalet/Fosse

January - May 1919 - Sieburg, Nr Bonn (Allied Forces of Occupation)

February - 24th May 1919 - Demobilisation of Battalion

 

George was only 1 of 25 who had survived from the original members of the Battalion who embarked in 1915 for Gallipoli.

 

Thanks to the Ross Gazette (Georges Obituaryof the  9th February 1967 issue) and the book MANU FORTI (A History of the Herefordshire Regiment 1860 - 1967) for the information they contain that allowed me to compile this page.
